Something Borrowed, Something Blue.

Let's start with the "something blue"!  A week ago the Grand Piano Room looked like this (minus the Christmas Tree).

And as of this morning it looks like this...DRUM ROLL PLEASE

Gorgeous!  I was a little hesitant about the brightness of the blue at the beginning but it looks fabulous on the walls.  Man, I hate to admit it when my husband is right, but once again he talked me into a color and once again he was right.  (I really hope he doesn't read this post as there is no need for him to hear me say this any more the necessary!)

The white trim, chair rail and even the white carpet (which is my sworn enemy) look great!  It brings great color to the first floor.  Here is a shot looking into the room from our family room.

Just makes me smile!  We have talked about adding additional trim work below the chair rail but now I am thinking it may be to much.  So I will let it marinate for a few weeks before making that decision.

Now...what is the "something borrowed" ?  I was out back with the dogs this morning and while they were doing their business I noticed something in the slowly melting snow.  I dug it out and found this guy...

He (yes, it is a boy) is heavy, made out of concrete.  He was laying on his side and all I can assume is that he was a decorative do-da left by the previous owners.  Our backyard is a snow covered display of do-das, bird feeders, fountains, trellises and fancy landscaping left behind.  You can tell hours of love and hard work was put into it, which makes me feel even worse that there is no chance we will maintain it.  I have had grand dreams of becoming a gardener but it just isn't in the cards.  Basically, I kill every plant I come within 10 yards of.  My husband yells and me weekly for forgetting to water the one house plant we have. So (back on track now) I borrowed him from the backyard to be put to good use in the new blue room.

It took a little scrubbing and some love but the result is great!  He stands alone on the corner of the desk right now.  He needs a few little accessory friends to make him happy, but in the mean time I am very pleased with the find.  I know once the snow melts I may realize why he was needed outside but for now I am happy with him here.

To complete the room we need some more art for the walls, throw pillows for the chairs (which I have been searching for and have not yet found the perfect thing) and a few odds and ends to fill the three floating shelves I put up in the corner over my desk.  But the majority of the makeover was in the paint.  Amazing what a change in color can do!
