The Next Project

Happy Friday everyone!  I hope everyone had a great week and is ready to enjoy a long weekend ...I know I am!  But before you head off for your final weekend of the summer, I wanted to give you all a sneak peak of what I am working on.  Long ago (OK maybe only a couple of months ago) we bought this sewing machine / bedside table for our master bedroom...

Remember, I made threats of sewing in the middle of the night.  Well that hasn't happened yet but it still may.  I have been known to do strange things in my sleep.  But the chances of that are less likely because this table ended up on my husband's side of the bed.  (Still not sure how I lost that battle.)  Which means I am still doing the semi-dangerous lean out of bed and try and not fall on my head while putting stuff on the floor routine.  Not pretty.  So it is time to end my late night circus act and get myself a bedside table.

But this has not been simple, to say the least.  I have searched every consignment / thrift store in Madison.  I have done the slow down drive by more yard sales then I like to admit (while maybe a car or two honks behind me).  And I have searched on Craig's List for hours.  But as it usually does, eventually Craig's List did pull through for me and this one was an adventure to say the least.

Last week I saw this bedside table listed on Craig's List...

Yes, it is old.  Yes, it is raggidy. Yes, it would intimidate the average Craig's List shopper.  But oh no, not me.  I was not intimidated.  I saw it and said "YES, that is my bedside table".  What?  What did I hear you say?  You don't think I am telling the full story!  OK, there was one other small thing that was screaming my name.  And that thing was the word FREE.  Yup, you got it.  It was FREE.  Isn't that word nice, F-R-E-E.  Just rolls off the tongue (or fingers in this case).

So I headed to my new Craig's List best friend's house to pick it up.  It wasn't necessarily in the best neighborhood.  But my wonderful friend Anna had my back.  I told her the address where and I was going and she told me if she didn't hear from me by 3:40 (I was meeting him at 3:30) that she was going to panic.  And staying true to my Craig's List rules I never go in someones house if I am alone (or just with my daughter).   Most sellers are very good about bringing the item outside or into their garage cause they probably don't want me in their home either and this seller was no different.  The table was waiting for me on the front porch.

So despite any nervousness I went to this gentleman's house and I found something amazing!  His entire front yard was full of amazing furniture all needing some degree of TLC.  I wish I had taken a picture but at the time it seemed a little rude to ask.  But it was truely wonderful.  It was like a halfway house for furniture!  I could have spent hours looking through it all and filled 5 cars worth of stuff but my daughter was with me and I had to call Anna in 10 minutes or else I am certain the cops would have been on the way so sadlylas I had to leave.  But I did get my new (term used loosely) bedside table and I will definetly go back to visit my new best friend sometime soon.

Probably to late to make a long story short...but I have my table and I have a lot of work ahead of me.  Here are a few more shots...

(Um, not blood - just some red paint from another project I am working on)

I did put in about 15 minutes of work on it today and it already looks so much better!

But it is 90 degrees and humid so 15 minutes is about as long as I could last in my garage.  But more work to come this weekend.
